Actually, Mandarin Chinese grammar is very simple. Although reading and writing characters takes some time to master, it is not necessary when learning how to speak Chinese.
What is the first step in learning Chinese?
The first step is to learn pronunciation. We do this by using a special system of Roman letters (the same letters used in our English alphabet) called Pin-Yin.
How many people can speak Chinese?
Mandarin Chinese is the second most spoken language in the world behind English. China has a 1.3 billion population and over 70% can speak Mandarin, while 90% can at least understand it. There are also millions of Chinese abroad who speak the language as well.
